Homeschool

It's starting

A California court has issued a ruling which effectively makes homeschooling in that state illegal. (Not surprisingly, neither the legislature nor any sort of popular sanction was involved. Such is "law" in this day and age.) In fact, the ruling is broad enough to affect charter schools and even study-at-home programs that are overseen by the public system. The case is headed to the state supreme court, so the ruling could be overturned, but that's only temporary. » read more »

Rescue a child

Do you have an opportunity to rescue a child from slavery and torture? There is a modern culture not too far from here that practices child sacrifice. Innocent little children of most any age are handed over to brutal killers to be slowly tortured and eventually slain. Many are killed even before they've ever seen daylight. Those who survive are enslaved, usually for the rest of their lives. The legitimate authorities put enormous pressure upon parents to surrender their children for sacrifice. Often backed into corners with few or seemingly no options, parents give over their precious gifts to the authorities, who will then dispose of them. Many parents give in unwillingly, feeling trapped and threatened. Others have been so well conditioned that they gladly surrender their kids and go so far as to extol the virtues of child sacrifice--as if any amount of spin could justify it. A select few are even recruited to participate in the slaughter, making it ever more efficient. » read more »

Don't fix what ain't broken

Vox made a good point:

One cannot fix what is not broken, and the schools are working as they are designed to work.

The reason schools appear to be failing is because we're using the wrong measurements. They are not designed to educate at all. They are designed to institutionalize, brainwash, and enslave. They do this quite well, in fact. By using the true goals of the educators, we can easily see the schools are succeeding wildly. » read more »

Excellence Punished

|

Linda blogged about excellence a while ago. What I failed to mention was how excellence is punished in today's American society. (It may be elsewhere, too, but my experience is distinctly American.) Very few parents raise their children to be excellent. Even fewer demand it of themselves. Peers condemn excellence, both children and adults alike. » read more »

Homeschool vs. Public School

I've noticed a big difference between homeschool and public school. First of all, I'm homeschooled year-round. We can take breaks whenever we want to. Also, I don't go by my grade. I work at whatever level I am in that subject. I am also not kept in a classroom all day with no freedom. » read more »

Rise of the Fourth Reich

|

There have been plenty of articles on WND, TuscanyCircle, and Vox's blog about this. (Here's the latest by Vox.) Germany is actively persecuting homeschoolers, even going so far as legally declaring those families who choose to leave Germany to protect their rights to homeschool as "kidnappers". In an age when the bad guy cannot be properly identified, individual rights are anathemas to the ever growing totalitarianism, and God's obedient are shunned and eventually hunted, you can be sure that not only will Germany be allowed to continue its immoral actions, but their Nazi philosophy will spread to the rest of Europe and then America.

The war on homeschooling

| |

A judge in Utah is persecuting a homeschooling family. Why is he doing this? Are the parents abusive? Are the children failing to learn? No, according to the article, "the judge told the woman that homeschooling fails 100 percent of the time and he wasn't going to allow it." It's always reassuring to have a fair, impartial judge sitting on the bench. » read more »

Michael provides a case for homeschooling

Embarrassingly poor grammar aside, Michael has made his point very eloquently:

Who really cares. Georgia blows tennessee out of the water no pun intended. Homeschooling is just stupid. You think thats good for your children. What you think you are protecting them from something. You think what because you are homeschooling them you are doing them a service. You teach them nothing about the real world- you baby them. I love when people are homeschooled and when they come to the real world like college they do not have the know how to handle themselves. They are completely ignorant to everything.

He seems to think poorly of homeschooling, except for the sadistic enjoyment he experiences at their supposed expense. Bully for Michael! I think Michael could be a poster child for homeschooling, an example of his parents' failure by turning over a [probably] once promising young boy to the government for a couple of decades of mind-dumbing--rather, mind-numbing--indoctrination. » read more »

Geometry

|

I recently wrote about the value of math, and I specifically noted, "Geometry is a great discipline for later proving various truths of the Biblical worldview." I'd like to expound a bit on this assertion.

Is the Bible true or not? That's the first, key step without which there is no proceeding. I'd say this is an act of faith, but it really needn't be--but I'll come back to this in a bit. For those of us in apologetics, we do indeed believe, assert, and defend the Bible as truth. The discipline gained from geometry is a tool for such logical defense. If you do not believe the Bible to be true, then the discipline of geometry may be a life-saving one. » read more »
