These people are definitely not terrorists by any stretch of the imagination. They may be thieves, but they're definitely not terrorists. It's even arguable that the RICO Act does not apply to them, if there's no actual racketeering or organized crime (the unconstitutionality of the RICO Act notwithstanding). » read more »

Record police, get 16 years
Submitted by Wayne on Tue, 2010-07-27 08:05. Justice | LawAnthony Graber faces up to sixteen years in prison for videotaping a policeman draw his gun during a traffic stop. Do the masses recognize this kind of reaction, which is increasingly common, as a hallmark of tyranny? I've said it before: rule-of-law is dead. The Republic is dead. It's now accurate to say that government employees, LEOs, and politicians may be reasonably assumed to be criminals unless proven otherwise—abuse of power is now the norm, not the exception.

Too much police power!
Submitted by Dave on Wed, 2010-06-23 06:49. Law | PoliticsIn Georgia, where I live, a law making it illegal to text while driving is about to go into effect. I'm the last one to speak favorably about texting while driving, but unfortunately, this law has some serious ramifications due to its near-enforceability. Enforcing the law will require near-total reliance on the opinions and observations of the police officers who write tickets. If a cop thinks that you were texting while driving, he'll write you a ticket--and then what do you do? » read more »
Free to abuse
Submitted by Dave on Thu, 2010-06-03 13:32. Justice | Law | Patriots | PrivacyThe police do not want us watching while they perform their "duties." They are so intent on this that the legislatures and courts in three states are conspiring to make it illegal to photograph or videotape on-duty policemen.
How can they possible justify this, except as an attempt to avoid accountability? However, as seen in the article, they are admitting anything but.
Thankfully, my state isn't one of the three, but for how long?
Census worker or home invader

So long, Mike--come back soon
Submitted by Dave on Thu, 2010-05-13 18:14. College | Law | Persecution | StupidityFor several years, Mike Adams has been one of my favorite columnists. He is a university professor and a conservative--a rare combination--and he has a terrific sense of humor and a fondness for satire. Today, he published what he said was his last column. He is halting his editorial output because a court has ruled that his First Amendment rights are, effectively, nonexistent. » read more »
Who needs parents?
Submitted by Dave on Wed, 2010-04-28 16:40. The new law aims to "educate (and punish) teenagers who forward around nude images of their peers, but not treat them as sex offenders." » read more »
How is this not a quota?
Submitted by Dave on Wed, 2010-04-28 10:05. Justice | Law | StupidityRoswell police officers who work the overnight shift are required to make 25 DUI arrests a year. But it's not a quota. The article states:
A department spokesman, Lt. James McGee, told the AJC that "there is really no quota, necessarily. I think the verbiage is probably misleading."
Quotas are against department policy, McGee added. » read more »
Atlanta cops: kudos or curses?
Submitted by Dave on Sun, 2010-04-18 09:17. Justice | LawOver the past few days, I have seen a few blurbs on ajc.com letting me know that Freaknik was supposed to be happening this weekend. Freaknik is an annual Spring Break gathering whose participants are predominantly students at historically black colleges and universities. In the past, despite the fact that Freaknik has had a number of events organized as part of the gathering, it has typically devolved into an out-of-control street party. It has caused major traffic problems in the downtown and midtown areas. » read more »
