Going en pointe

We knew a ballet teacher who went on pointe too early when she was a young dancer. Her teachers kept promoting her from level to level, and pointe was the next class for her. After a few years of dancing pointe, she started having problems with her legs, knees, and ankles. After doctors examined her, they determined it was pointe that was messing her up. » read more »

Live broadcast trial

|

Assuming sufficient bandwidth, I'm going to try live broadcasting, from my phone, of some behind-the-scenes activities at PIM's The Gift, beginning this evening. We'll see how this goes. It'll be sporadic, as I'll have plenty of other work to do, I'm sure. Nevertheless, I'm interested to see how it looks. » read more »

Video capture, live broadcast

|

I'm investigating live broadcast of Praise In Motion's concerts. Mac's webcam drivers are not quite up to date, so pan/tilt/zoom are not available on the nicer webcams. Camcorders generally don't support live streaming (what's up with this?). I believe I may have found a compromise that will do the job, but I'm looking for some confirmation and advice. » read more »

A Dream Realized

|

When Juliana was 3 years old she saw her first Praise In Motion performance. She had just begun her first ballet class that year and when she soaked in that performance, she told us that she was going to dance on that stage. I assured her that she would dance on that stage because her recitals that year would be at the same theater. She promptly proclaimed that, no, she was going to dance with THEM on the stage. She recognized that she would have to be older, but was adamant and over the years she has never waivered in her determination! » read more »

All-Female Staff

This is just too funny! Read it all the way through. With all the misandry in our culture, I'm glad at least one woman has learned to appreciate our strengths.

The reality is, God made men and women to be different. We excel at different roles. This doesn't make one better than the other, per se, although one is certainly better than the other at some things and the other better than the one at different things. Denying our differences sets us up for failure, something our culture is beginning to reap big-time. » read more »

Sexualizing Dance

|

A comment thread popped up on another post that I thought warranted removal. I removed the comments for a couple of reasons. First, they were a bit off-topic. Second, and worse, they collectively all but equated dance with sex. To be fair, the comments were written in jest, but this sexualization of dance, without any contextual recognition of its sinfulness, was disturbing. I am opening this new post and, hopefully, subsequent comments to explore this topic in a more Godly light. » read more »
