I have written this as a newspaper, and I feel this is the only way to get it delivered.
Why Was It Not Fair?
By Juliana E. Franklin
Why was life not fair anymore? Why did things keep on happening that held us down? Nothing needed to happen. There was no reason for anything to happen. I’m talking about the Depression. Nothing was ever fair. Some people were selling eggs to get by after they lost their jobs. Others were taking in boarders. Whole companies and factories were going out of business. That meant that many men lost their jobs. They couldn’t support their family anymore. Some people’s homes were even taken away. The families were just left to live on the streets with their things. When they took in boarders, people would have to give up their rooms for the guests. In a way, they still lost their home. It would become a hotel, full of people waiting for this here, or that there. Even if you lost all your money, there were ways to get by. But they weren’t easy ways. They weren’t nice, convenient, or enjoyable. Sometimes, you’d have to wear dresses made out of feed sacks. No part of life was worth smiling about in the Depression. No part was fun, or worth living. Life wasn’t fair to anyone. From the rich, to the poor-nothing was worth it. It was easy to get into, but hard to get out of. It’s not something that should be repeated, and it’s not something you should even skim the edge of. Study it more to find out for yourself. Read books, search online, or teach someone younger than you. It is not life, it is not fairness, but most of all, it’s not what America is meant to be.
