Where have I been?
It's been way too long since I contributed anything. In August of last year, I started working for a local company that had recently been acquired by Siemens. Having my commute time go from 20 minutes to 45 minutes on an ideal day was just a small part off the problem. I think I bit off more than I chew.
Things started slowly but then, after a month of reading a lot of source code and scant documentation, I was given my first assignment and, quite frankly, fumbled...badly. I'll spare the gory details, but just before the Christmas holiday, I didn't think I would be back in January. By God's grace, I was given a second chance. My project is on time for delivery at the end of the week, but I haven't stopped sweating yet.
If you are intimate with Microsoft Installer 3.1 and are willing to give some advice on launching 3rd party installers from within a Custom Action, please let me know.
My youngest doughter is playing tomorrow night, 26 Feb 2008, in a 'Side by Side' concert with the Gwinnett Philharmonic orchestra as one of a select few from the Gwinnett Symphony Youth Orchestra. My son, in his secon year at Georgia Tech, is now a co-op student working at DuPont in Richmond, Virginia. He'll be shuttling back and forth so that he works a semester, and then goes to school a semester, until he graduates. And they have him doing real work, too; he's helping tweak the process of making Nomex, and industrial material widely used as an insulator in electric motors. My oldest daughter is working on her Master's degree in Graphics Arts at Pensacola Christian college, where she is teaching a class in art for non-art majors, and training art education teachers. Where were these opportunities when I was that age?
