Support The Troops; Oppose The War

|

The majority of Americans fall into one of two camps. They either support the troops or oppose the war. It seems they're too stupid to realize the only moral choice is to support the troops and oppose the war.

What do these two things mean? Supporting the troops is not a collective action but an individual one. It's about supporting the individual men (and women, too, even though they shouldn't be there) who are in battle. It's about insuring they have the tools to do their jobs (e.g., armor, arms, ammunition, intelligence, tactics, etc.). It's about protecting their lives, praying for their safety, and keeping up their morale.

For the average citizen, opposing the war amounts to lobbying against it with our rulers, refraining from reelecting those who started it, and holding legally accountable those officials who violated the law and the Constitution in doing so. All of this can be done without injury to the troops or demoralizing them.

The masses are, by and large, unable to hold more than one thought in their heads at a time; and even then, the thought had better be a simple one. This is how we get into such quagmires. We can accept the President is a moral man in his personal life and yet still find him to be an unconstitutional tyrant as a President. It is feasible to punish criminals for their lawless behavior without condemning the tools they abused in their crimes (ref., ref., and ref.). We can respect the men who perform the duties of law enforcement, even obey their authority, without condoning their unconstitutional jobs.

Don't be stupid.
