Russian Predicts America's Demise

|

A respected Russian analyst predicts the U.S. will dissolve into six parts in 2010. He's certainly right about the reasons for such a prediction. As this depression mimics the 1873 one more than the 1929 one, there's also a good chance the U.S. will emerge the loser, geopolitically and economically speaking. In other words, yes, Russia and China (and India?) will likely emerge as the world leaders economically. This kind of collapse could indeed come as soon as 2010, just as soon as foreign lenders realize Obama isn't the Messiah (duh).

What I'm not sure about is his prediction of six pieces and the foreign takeovers of these pieces. A single event could tip the scales one of a few different ways. For example, he thinks the South will be essentially Mexican, but rage against illegal invaders--given the right event(s)--could do just the opposite. In any case, it's a fair bet that we'll be living in "interesting times".

Secession

So, maybe Sarah wasn't as loopy as depicted, saying that her foreign policy experience includes seeing Russia from her house.

Looking at his map, he puts TN, KY, NC, and SC in the NY/EU section. While he may be a brilliant prophet, I think he doesn't know us as well as he thinks. These four states, especially TN and KY, would likely go with Texas instead. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part Smiling .

I spoke about secession in my Christmas letter, so this prediction seems eerily possible. Yikes.

Secession

I think you're right. If anything like this scenario comes to pass, I would not be surprised to see the South "rise again". I don't see any particular allegiance to Texas among Southerners, though. Culturally speaking, Texas is very much its own animal.

Funny--and sad--thing is, I don't think secession will be politically motivated. I think it will simply be de facto, based upon states withholding federal tax revenue. If federal bankruptcy is in the cards--how can it be avoided at this point?--it's probably only a matter of time before federal wealth redistribution to the states is curtailed partially or fully. At this point, and combined with the states' budgets really hurting, states will start claiming what would have been federal tax revenue. This will help the states meet their budgetary demands. After all, it's asinine to keep supporting a fedgov necessarily destined for bankruptcy and not beholden to a balanced budget (i.e., no hope for a solution), states will likely reason. When states withhold this revenue, they will have "seceded" by default.

Sovereignty of the States, against the foreign powers the Russian dude names, can be protected by the National Guard and, if necessary, the militia. (Here, I use its traditional definition, every able-bodied man.) Unlike some fiction like "Jericho", I don't see the American identity fading so fast as to have these six pieces all but surrendering to foreign powers. On the other hand, there's been a huge secession movement in Hawaii for years now. (Good riddance.) Alaska also has such a movement, but not as strong, as I understand it. Also consider, there are many patriots still remaining in this nation, folks who know what freedom is and are willing to fight for it. These may even number as high as a few million, and given the right speech-writers, even more may answer any call to arms. Given all this, I'm not just seeing the [continental] states joining Mexico, Canada, the EU, etc. (I kinda wish NYC would join the EU, though, so long as we can wall them off from civilization.)

Like other patriots, I certainly love America and its ideals of freedom [from government], and I have no love for the fedgov. When the fedgov collapses, it doesn't necessarily spell the end of America herself. What will tip the scales in any reconstruction will be the stupid masses. Will they side with the patriots and rebuild a free America? Or will they (specifically in the form of the military, police, etc.) side with the various forces of tyranny? Publicity and flashpoints will probably tell.

What will be even more interesting to me is the currency. Will the secession happen before the Fed devalues the dollar into oblivion? If not, all new currencies may arise. If secession does happen first and the Fed is dissolved (or seceding Fed banks sever their allegiance), we may be able to limp along without an economic meltdown akin to post-WWI Germany. Even among patriots, though, the number of folks who have a freakin' clue about the laws of economics (i.e., subscribe to Austrian school) is really, really small. If they reinstate Keynesian and other idiotic and socialist theologies, we're screwed.
