"There are laws on the books that restrain people from carrying concealed firearms because the public policy benefits outweigh the possible costs of the extremely rare times when having a concealed weapon prevents somebody from being injured." Peter Hamm, communications director for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The facts are:

• There are about 2 million successful defenses using a firearm each year, most without a shot being fired. (Source)
• There are about 16 thousand murders per year, 10 thousand of them using firearms. (Source)

With 10 thousand offenses and 2 million defenses annually, it seems Peter Hamm is colossally stupid. Of course, it's possible when he refers to "the public policy benefits", he means the benefits to those who rule over a defenseless populace.

If we were to add in the rest of the "gun crimes" (as if guns had a will of their own), you'd have a total of about 250 thousand crimes, with California (a notoriously anti-gun state) having more than its fair share (source). Even so, that's still a factor of 10 difference between good and evil uses of firearms. If governments would quit disarming people, crime would drop dramaticaly, as it did in Kennesaw.

The only true reason to disarm a population is to effectively subjugate, enslave, and murder them. History proves this time and again. See:
