Podcast List Update

These are not all the podcasts I listen to, but the best. Most are weekly presentations.

The Naked Scientists, from the BBC. Now that I have your attention, I must explain that it's the science that is naked, not the scientists. From the same people that publich Nature, a well-respected peer reviewed journal, the program is amazingly fun to listen to, as well as educational. Chris Smith, who leads the the broadcast/podcast, is a clinical virolugist and lecturer, has a photographic memory and lightning-fast wit. The rest of the crew are of the same high calibre. Each week, they present a one-hour show that includes a roundup of science news, discussions with experts in various fields, questions from listeners, a kitchen science experiment, and a question of the week, The web site has LOTS of resoureces worth checking out. Needless to say, it assumes evolution. http://www.thenakedscientists.com

Answers with Ken Ham is a polite, but in your face, minute-and-a-half discussion about various fallacies of evolution. Naturally, the Answers in Genesis website has tons of information. http://blogs.answersingenesis.org/aroundthewo...

Calvary Chapel Central has a catalog of hundreds of sermons by Pastor John Brown, each about 45 minutes in length. For those into homiletics, this is worth listening to. http://www.calvarycentral.org

CrossWay Church Sermon Podcast comes from a Menonnite Church and it's amazing that I listened for many weeks before I learned that; the preaching is sound, but the sound is not so good. http://godcast.crossway.cc

Daily Encouragement Net. I can hardlay say enough about the quality of the daily devotionals Steve and Brooksyne Weber, corporate chaplains, put together. Steve prepares the devotional, finds links music to complement it, provides a transcript of the podcast, and always has georgous pictures for each devotional online, usually ones he has taken himself. Brooksyne writes the prayer, reads the scripture and the prayer, and often contributes her own thoughts. There is a lot more to their ministry than I can write in this space, so be sure to visit the website. http://www.dailyencouragement.net

LifeSpring! Hymn Stories. Lifespring has many other podcasts, but I like hearing the stories behind the songs, and this is one resource worth a listen. http://hymns.lifespringonline.com

Stories of Great Hymns. A professional actor, Rex Brenner tells how great hymns came to be written, and emotionally reads the lyrics. http://sunlite.podblaze.com

Mariners Church, located in Irvine, California, in Orange County, must be a pretty big church. Each week, the Sunday sermon, again about 45 minutes long, is podcast. The senior pastor, Kenton Beshore is a dynamic speaker that gets you excited just listening to him. Another podcast those who appreciate homiletics. http://www.marinerschurch.org

Car Talk. What can I say? If you enjoy listening to two guys field all kinds of questions about cars, and more, you will love this show. I like hearing it because it is so rare to hear two brothers who are absolute riot. Oh yeah, you might learn something abut cars, too. An animated show about these guys who, in real life are graduates of M.I.T. who own a garage and really do know their stuff, is coming to PBS this year. http://www.cartalk.com

NPR: A who lot of other shows. If you want to hear news broadcast and analysis that is more in-depth and objective than what you find on TV, I recommend NPR. Here are are some the other shows I listen to, all of which can be found on the Podcasts link from the main web page.
Religion - weekly news about all religions, length varies greatly.
Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me - a 50-minute news quiz show that has biting political humor that manages to be an equal opportunity offender, this one the few 'adult' (read juvenile) programs I listen to. You may not find it as funny as I do, and you really have to keep up with political and other news to fullt appreciate it, especially the more 'offbeat' or 'wierd' stuff.
This American Life is probably the most controversial podcast I listen to. If you don't know about secular culture, this will educate you. I dislike many of the stories, some I absolutely love, but all help give you a perspective of what people today reall think, one that most Chrsitians would not otherwise easily have.

Old Fashioned Revival Hour Broadcast. Up to this point, the churches I've mentioned fall have good preaching and quite modern music. This is the other extreme. Old hyms, bit quite as conservatively delivered as you might expect, and great preaching from 50 years ago when people still had a conscience that could be offended. George Schuller is the preacher, and he does not hold back anything! Listen carefully to the words of the old hymns and see if you eyes are still dry at the end of the podcast. http://biblebelievers.com/OFRH/index.html

Theology Unplugged, from Reclaiming the Mind Ministries. Another podcast with a rich library of material on its website, which is also the home of Converse with Scholars. If you want articulate apologetics about theology, Converse with Scholars is a Who's Who of present-day theologians discussing tough topics and then taking questions from listeners. Theology Unplugged has a growing libray of podcasts where the history and issues of theology are intelligently and persuasively discussed. I think you will appreciate and be stimulated by both of these podcasts, regardless of whether you agree with the speakers. http://www.reclaimingthemind.org/

Words of Hope Daily Devotional. In exactly 2 minutes, David Bast reads a concise, but intense devotional with illustrations from missionaries in the field today. http://www.woh.org

Old Time Dragnet. The radio show from the 1950's. Masterfully done. http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast...

For those who may not be into listening to short devotional messages, Let me say that I find these to be a great way to calm down and regain perspective during the work day. I usually listen at lunch or take a short break to clear my head. My workplace has several dart boards, a Foosball room, putting equipment and a frightening number of Nerf guns. Our boss encourages these activities and, on rare occassions, I play foosball with some of the other employees, so I know that taking 5 or 10 minutes to take a walk a listen to a devotional or music is no problem.

As I stated at the top, there are other podcasts I listen to. These have to do with science, music, trivia, and British humor. If you are interested in these, just let me know and I'll reply privately.

NPR, Nature are terrible

I like Ken Ham and AiG, and I highly recommend them.

NPR is nothing more than a leftist propaganda machine. I cannot say everything on NPR is garbage, for I would hope that a decent moment leaks through every now and again, but it would be the exception rather than the rule.

Nature is a ridiculous joke. I'm shocked any believer would refer to it without disgust. I don't know much about the Naked Scientists, but if it's at all affiliated with Nature, be wary!

As for peer review, Vox agrees that it's laughable and completely unscientific. Today's peer review process is more like pseudo-intellectual inbreeding or a big, God-hating circle jerk (pardon my French).
