God's awesome power

I received an email containing some incredible images. The email claimed that they were pictures of Katrina taken in Alabama as she rolled on shore. Regardless of whether that is true or not, they are stunning examples of God's power and majesty. As I viewed the pictures, I was struck by how powerless we are in the face of such a force, and how there is no man-made invention that can come close to the destructive power of a hurricane. I also had the thought that, if this is what Katrina looked like in Alabama, I shudder to imagine what it was like near the center of the storm. (Click here to view pictures.)

Not Katrina

I have learned that these photos are not of Katrina. They are pictures of various midwestern storms taken by storm photographer Mike Hollingshead. Of course, they are still great pics!

You can't modify hurricanes

Here's an interesting article that discusses past research into the possibility of man-made interference that attempts to weaken hurricanes. Check out this quote, the last sentence in the article:

According to the center for atmospheric research, the heat energy released by a hurricane equals 50 to 200 trillion watts or about the same amount of energy released by exploding a 10-megaton nuclear bomb every 20 minutes.

Like I said, nothing in our arsenal comes close.
