Not nearly far enough

Yeah, excellence is cool. However, when the author awkwardly said:

It might be possible to have a will to excellence in all areas of life, but I suspect that would make the will to excellence a burden, because no one has the resources to devote to improving at everything.

...he fell far short. What standard does the Lord set for us (as if any other mattered)? Nothing short of perfection (Matthew 5:48). And yes, it's a burden, but it's not a big one (Matthew 11:30). Most importantly, the Lord is the one providing the strength for excellence (Exodus 15:2; Psalm 28:8; 2 Thessalonians 3:3). Strive for excellence in all things--maybe not all at once, but as much as possible and continuously.

As for us, we chose to codify our "will to excellence" and we take such obedience seriously. Lord knows, we have a long way to go (and the traits will surely grow), but He will guide us always (Proverbs 1:5; Matthew 28:20; John 14:26). In the end, though, He gets all the glory for all true, Godly excellence (Psalm 29:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Revelation 4:11)!
