Theology

| |

Are you a theologian? The overwhelming majority of those who claim to be Christian will say, "No." Sadly, they're usually correct. Theology is merely the study of God. Studying God can be done several ways:

  • Read the Bible.
  • Study the Bible.
  • Learn the original languages of the Bible and study the Bible in these languages.
  • Read extra-Biblical texts, commentaries, study guides.
  • Attend Bible studies.
  • Study extra-Biblical history of Biblical times.
  • Study doctrines of significant theologians.
  • Discuss hermeneutics (Biblical interpretation) and doctrine, and principles thereof, with other theologians.
  • Write out your own statement of faith, doctrine, etc.
  • Pray.
  • Fast and pray.

There are just a few ways to get going as a theologian. 2 Timothy 2:15 makes it clear we're to know Scriptures well, and thereby know God. 2 Thessalonians 1:8 and Titus 1:16 also speak of the dangers of not knowing God. When His kingdom is established, theology may be a thing of the past as we'll all know God (Jeremiah 31:34), but until then, get to know your Maker, Master, Father, and Savior.
