Jesus' Management
I'm rereading the book The Management Methods of Jesus by Bob Briner. I highly recommend this little book, especially for anyone in a leadership position or working in the corporate subculture.
I have one caveat about reading the book, though: it's depressing. It's depressing to see just how bad businessmen really are when they're compared to the ideal Manager. In my experience in the technology industry, it seems as if almost every manager I've known, from first-line managers to middle managers to CEOs, has read this book--but only because they do just about everything the wrong way!
American corporate culture (for I know no other experientially) seems to have evolved specifically to promote and require management in a style diametrically opposed to that of Jesus. It's no wonder the workplace is commonly viewed as hostile toward anything or anyone Godly.
I have long believed as soon as one major corporation figures out how to manage correctly, it'll trounce its competition practically overnight. In rereading this book, this belief has only been strengthened.
