The Speech George W. Bush Should Give
Submitted by Katrina on Tue, 2007-07-17 14:04. Economics | Humor | Politics | WarWe all have our disagreements with President Bush. Immigration, U.S.
Attorney firings, Iraq, Darfur, etc. are all hot topics these days. The
following "speech" was written yesterday by an ordinary Maineiac. While
satirical in nature, all satire must have a basis in fact to be effective.
An excellent piece by a person who does not write for a living. Sent
with the author's permission.

doing it this time. If the polls are any indication, I don't know

Christian Music: It's About Lyrics, Not Notes!
Submitted by Katrina on Wed, 2007-07-11 14:50. Bible | Church | Doctrine | HolinessIn light of the recent discussions regarding music and more
specifically Christian music
(http://tuscanycircle.net/drupa...), I feel compelled
to offer my opinion.
First of all, let me start by saying that music (tunes, melodies, etc.) are
nothing more than notes on paper. It has no meaning in and of itself. It
can evoke thoughts and feelings in the listener, but each listener will have
different thoughts and feelings from the same music. I would assert here
that each listener is responsible for his own thoughts and feelings
associated with the music and it is NOT the music itself. In fact, » read more »
Gwinnett County Tax $$ Working for You - NOT!
Submitted by Katrina on Tue, 2006-01-10 10:52. Homeschool | Parenting | PoliticsThe following is written by a homeschool mom who has been doing battle with the Gwinnett Co. Public Libraries. This is her report on last night's board meeting which she attended:
I just returned from the Library Board meeting and I'm sad to report that the Library Board has backtracked on its promise to forge a partnership with the homeschool community and has made several decisions in an effort to bust our chops (my opinion).
While Lloyd Breck is still very supportive of responding to the needs of the homeschool community, he has limited power to see things through. It turns out that although Lloyd Breck requested that I compile lists of books, audio books, and music CDs that the homeschool community wants added to the collection, and agreed to forward these to Mable Anne Kinchencloe, » read more »
A [Politically Corrected] Christmas Poem
Submitted by Katrina on Mon, 2005-12-19 09:54. Humor'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...
How to live in a world that's politically correct?
His workers no longer could answer to "Elves";
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
And labor conditions at the North Pole
Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.
Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,
Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear
That Santa had better not use just reindeer.
So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid
Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!
The runners had been removed from his sleigh; » read more »
Tennessee Aquarium Homeschool Day
Submitted by Katrina on Sat, 2005-12-17 09:41. Homeschool | ParentingReceived this from a homeschool loop I'm on and highly recommend it.
The Tennessee Aquarium is having their homeschool day January 23rd from 10AM to 4PM. The cost is $5 per student for Aquarium (both old and new!), and $12.50 per adult. Combo tickets are $8.25 and $16.25 for the Aquarium and IMAX. Behind the scenes tour costs $5. Homeschool students and parents receive 10% discount in the gift shop. This is not up on their web site, yet; I received a letter in the mail. For more information you can contact Bray McDonald at brm [at] tnaqua [dot] org.
No Thank You, We Don't Believe in Socialization!
Submitted by Katrina on Mon, 2005-10-31 09:43. HomeschoolNo Thank You, We Don't Believe in Socialization!
By Lisa Russell
I can't believe I am writing an article about socialization, the word makes
my skin crawl. As homeschoolers, we are often accosted by people who assume
that since we're homeschooling, our kids won't be "socialized." The word has
become such a catch phrase that it has entirely lost any meaning.
The first time I heard the word, I was attending a Catholic day school as a
first grader.
Having been a "reader" for almost 2 years, I found the phonics and reading
lessons to be incredibly boring. Luckily the girl behind me felt the same » read more »

In 1927 - Interesting
In 1927, a major unnamed hurricane struck the city of New Orleans. It was
actually more powerful than Katrina. The scope of damage was much more
severe because this particular hurricane actually hit the city. Katrina
missed it by 25 miles.
The interesting difference is the response the government gave in 1927 to
those hurricane refugees, compared to the refugees of Katrina, err-I meant » read more »

Fortunately, we found a way our kids can receive the same socialization that government schools provide. » read more »

How to Fail at Homeschooling in Three Easy Steps
Submitted by Katrina on Sun, 2005-08-21 13:09. HomeschoolHow to Fail at Homeschooling in Three Easy Steps
by Marybeth Whalen
The sensible man considers his steps. Proverbs 14:15, NASB
I can still remember the first day I put my kids in school after homeschooling them for five years. When I returned home after dropping them off, a friend called to see how I was doing. How was it? she asked tentatively apparently expecting tears and regret from me.
Great! I responded enthusiastically. I barely slowed down at the curb to let them out of the car! I explained how euphoric I felt as I turned my children's education over to other, more capable people. I felt liberated that day and explained to my friend that I would be able to concentrate on my two little ones still at home now that my three older ones were tucked away at school. Surely this was the answer to all my problems. » read more »
